Be among the select few, under a limited USFS permit, to kayak near the face of the majestic Mendenhall Glacier. Your guide will teach you kayaking techniques, then board the two-person kayaks, with either a new friend or traveling companion. Journey across Mendenhall Lake in your stable kayak, navigating the glacier fed water that is truly one of the jewels of the Tongass National Forest. Your guide will explain the breathtaking nature surrounding you and the history and ecology of Mendenhall Glacier. Venture within a safe distance of the massive, awe-inspiring face of the glacier and skirt the base of the beautiful and powerful Nugget Falls. After paddling back across the lake, refuel with an Alaskan-style snack.

The Experience

Paddle across Mendenhall Lake for a rare, up-close view of the majestic Mendenhall Glacier on this exclusive kayaking adventure. Operated under a very limited U.S. Forest Service permit, this tour offers a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of the Tongass National Forest.

Gear Up & Launch

Upon arrival, your experienced guide will provide life jackets, rain gear, and a quick kayaking lesson. Then, pair up in a stable two-person kayak and set off across the waters of Mendenhall Lake. As you paddle, your guide will share insights about the glacier’s history, ecology, and local wildlife, which may include bald eagles, mountain goats, and even bears along the shoreline.

Glacier & Nugget Falls

Venture within a safe distance of the massive, ever-changing glacier face, taking in its stunning blue ice formations. Then, glide past the powerful Nugget Falls, feeling the mist from its rushing waters.

Refuel & Reflect

After paddling back across the lake, refuel with a snack of Alaskan-style fare and take a moment to reflect on this unforgettable experience.
