Full Tour Description

Experience two of Juneau’s most unforgettable adventures—kayaking near Mendenhall Glacier and feasting at the famous Gold Creek Salmon Bake. This exclusive tour operates under a very limited U.S. Forest Service permit, allowing you to paddle up close to the glacier before enjoying an all-you-can-eat Alaskan feast.

Your adventure begins at Mendenhall Lake, where your expert guide will provide life jackets, rain gear, and a quick kayaking lesson. Then, pair up in a stable two-person kayak and set off across the iceberg-studded waters, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Tongass National Forest.

As you paddle, your guide will share insights about the glacier’s history, local wildlife, and unique ecology. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, mountain goats, and salmon, and enjoy the rare opportunity to kayak near the face of Mendenhall Glacier. You’ll also navigate past the powerful Nugget Falls, feeling the cool mist as you glide by.

After paddling back across the lake, it’s time to refuel at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. Set in a beautiful rainforest, this all-you-can-eat feast features alderwood-grilled wild Alaska salmon, Bonanza barbecue ribs, Chilkoot baked beans, Tongass wild-rice pilaf, hot chowder, fresh salads, and homemade blueberry cake. Beer and wine are available for purchase.

After your meal, roast marshmallows over the campfire, stroll along Salmon Creek, or take a short walk to a breathtaking waterfall. Explore the remnants of the historic Wagner Mine, where you can even try panning for gold.

With regular shuttle service back to the pier, you can enjoy the experience at your own pace. This once-in-a-lifetime adventure combines the best of Juneau’s wilderness and flavors—don’t miss it!
