Full Tour Description

addle through Alaska’s stunning coastal waterways on this Glacier View Sea Kayaking adventure. Your journey begins with a scenic drive to North Douglas Island, offering breathtaking views of Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefield across Gastineau Channel.

Upon arrival, your experienced guide will provide life jackets, rain gear, and a quick kayaking lesson. Then, pair up with a travel companion or a new friend and step into a stable, two-person kayak for an unforgettable water expedition.

Following the path of the Aleut Indians, who once navigated these waters for the Russian fur trade, you’ll glide along the pristine coastline. The quiet, nimble kayaks allow for up-close encounters with local wildlife, including porpoises, seals, sea lions, eagles, herons, and possibly even whales.

As you paddle through the Mendenhall Wetlands, take in a spectacular ocean view of Mendenhall Glacier, a sight only visible from this unique vantage point. On clear days, you’ll see how the massive river of ice winds through the mountain peaks for miles. Your guide will share stories about Smugglers Cove, local history, and the area’s diverse flora and fauna.

This tour is perfect for all experience levels. Guides will group paddlers by ability, ensuring a comfortable pace for everyone. First-time kayaker? No problem! Your guide will provide expert assistance throughout the trip.

Back at the kayak base, warm up with a delicious Alaska-style snack before returning to the pier by bus.
