Full Tour Description
Your adventure begins at Mendenhall Glacier, where you’ll board a transfer to Auke Bay. Upon arrival, your captain and onboard naturalist will welcome you aboard a state-of-the-art, 48-passenger jet boat. Custom-built for whale watching in Juneau, the boat features large windows and an outdoor viewing deck for the best possible experience.
Juneau is home to a thriving humpback whale population, with around 65 whales returning each season to feed in the nutrient-rich waters. Your captain knows exactly where to find them, and whale sightings are guaranteed. If you don’t spot a whale during your cruise, you’ll receive a $100 refund ($50 for children).
Your captain will announce when whales are spotted, but you’ll likely hear the excited gasps of fellow passengers first. Watching a giant humpback breach the surface is an unforgettable moment. Binoculars are available for your use onboard. Step onto the outdoor deck for a panoramic view and incredible photo opportunities, or relax inside the warm, comfortable cabin with oversized windows perfect for wildlife viewing.
After the cruise, you’ll head to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake, set in a scenic rainforest clearing. As you arrive, the aroma of wild Alaskan salmon grilling over an alder wood fire fills the air. The all-you-can-eat buffet includes Bonanza Barbecue Ribs, Alyeska Au Gratin Potatoes, Chilkoot Baked Beans, Tongass Wild-Rice Pilaf, fresh salads, and beverages. Save room for blueberry cake for dessert.
After your meal, roast marshmallows over a crackling campfire, explore the Salmon Creek Trading Post, or take a leisurely stroll to the stunning Salmon Creek waterfall. No need to rush—courtesy buses run frequently, so you can return to the dock whenever you’re ready.
